We are often faced with questions like, “What are you passionate about?” or “What do you want to do with your life?” frequently. Don’t you think the word PASSION has been one of the most overused words these days? And if your answer is YES then why?

Do you know someone living their life’s passion? Their entire life is inspiring indeed. And that’s one of the reasons we always admire personalities like Sachin Tendulkar, Lata Mangeshkar, Steve Jobs, J.K. Rowling, and countless others. And why wouldn’t we admire them?

Not only they achieved phenomenal success and fame in their life, but also they are unstoppable at their work. Even after facing catastrophes and major setbacks, they are vehemently following their passion.

Now, apart from those who followed their passion (which is not just limited to the above examples), what about you? Don’t you want to live your life with a specific purpose? Do you want to just spend your life doing things that you never wanted to do?

Just imagine, if making money was never an issue, what would you do and who would you become?

An actor or an Engineer? Because of Societal pressures!

An author who is always involved with his novels or a corporate strategist?

A fashion designer or an Android developer?

A surgeon by your choice or a surgeon because you are a son/daughter of a surgeon!

Difficulties of Working on our Passion

Well, the answers to the above questions are not too difficult to find, as the answers lie within ourselves. In our educational system, the crowd of students says well we would like to be poets, painters, writers, etc; but as everybody knows you can’t earn money that way, so it’s better to go for graduation from a reputed college, and pick up a particular job. And the students are not fully wrong in their thinking. Many students still don’t know what can they do to earn money, and just because money is the major concern for most of the youth today, they end up doing jobs they don’t like doing.

Over expectations of parents and society are pressuring their minds to an unbelievable extent and they start losing themselves. As a result, they become mentally ill. According to WHO, the issue of mental illness affects an estimated 350 million people around the world, among which most are younger people.

Moreover, today’s generation hasn’t thought about what their dreams and imaginations mean to their career trajectory. All they know is only to fulfill others’ expectations either of parents or of society. And so they better decide to give up on their dreams. It’s because either they are too impatient to see through their dreams or because they are so concerned about others’ opinions that they often ignore their inner soul’s voice. And the worst of all cases, most of them even don’t know what they want from their life that can give them both happiness and satisfaction.

Now for an instance, just forget about money; take a pause and think, what is it that ignites you? What do you desire that makes you happy and full of enthusiasm? What is it that makes you happy doing more than anything else? Some people know what they want while others are always confused.

In Japanese terms, we can say that some people have found their IKIGAI  while others are still looking for it, though they carry it within them. IKIGAI  is a Japanese word that means ‘ a reason to live or a reason to jump out of bed in the morning’. We all have a purpose in this world. All we have to do is find it. Just find your purpose, find your passion, and then throw yourself into it. Work on it passionately and then you can make every single day of your life joyful and meaningful. You are what you seek.

Our life is the result of our choices so it’s better to seek a choice that always gives you a reason to smile, instead of just thinking about others’ opinions. You just can’t wait for big things to come to you. You’ve got to make big things happen and this can be done by following your passion with patience, persistence, and perseverance. Believe in yourself and in your passion.

CONCLUSION

Life is greater if you live with purpose.
When you find a meaningful reason for
doing what you do, you will feel complete.

Just as money feeds our bodies, in the same way, passion feeds our spirits. So you must never give up on it, as this IKIGAI will impact not only just you but the whole world around you. The passion that we have makes us unique and so we must not sacrifice our uniqueness in our attempt to please the world.

The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why”.

Mark Twain

As I have mentioned earlier, many people still don’t know about their passion then what should they do now? Simply invest many hours thinking about their passion. No, definitely a big no! Just explore yourself and think once about what are you good at. And don’t worry, you are not alone in this journey. Not everyone knows what they’re passionate about. If you are perplexed about finding your passion, that’s okay, that’s absolutely okay. Do something regularly instead of overthinking and you will definitely figure out what you really want. You can find passion and fulfillment in any career as long as you find value in it. If you are unable to follow your passion, let passion follow you. Be brave enough to live the life of your dreams to its fullest instead of just surviving your life.

Hope this post helps you figure out the direction you want to move in.
